Williamsburg bridge value engineering study
Agency: New York City Office of Management and Budget and New York City Department of Transportation
CSM served on a panel assembled by Procifico Partners, to review a future Contract 9 for the Williamsburg Bridge. We provided our expertise in construction management during this value engineering study.
The project for which the study was commissioned is focused on preserving and prolonging the service life of the Williamsburg Bridge, including the following measures:
Arrest deterioration of structural members
Restore structural members that exhibit substantial section loss
Extend the service life of the bridge
Rehabilitate the bridge while retaining historic character
Minimize environmental effects, including impacts to traffic, communities, adjacent parks, pedestrian and bicycle users of the bridge
Design seismic retrofits on the main bridge to sustain seismic loading
The focus of the value engineering study was to review designs developed by NYCDOT’s consultant and make recommendations on design approach, products, materials, and methods chosen, as well as the impact of construction staging on the overall project cost and schedule.
